‘In the Midst of Plenty’ is a new folk musical from Enchanted Croi Theatre touring Ireland and premiering traveling to Town Hall Cavan (May 28th) and Backstage Theatre, Longford (May 31st). The show tells the story of the desperate lengths the starving tenants on the Strokestown estate in Roscommon went to in order to survive the Great Hunger, and their exodus along what is now known as the National Famine Way. Exploring themes of Irish womanhood, family, community, and rebellion, this production peels back the curtain of antiquity surrounding the Great Hunger and presents the reality of this true story in all of its bare, heartfelt authenticity.
